A Reel with a song you cannot get out of your head, a motivational voice-over, a trending sound you want for your own video: often the part of a Reel worth keeping is the audio. Instagram lets you save a sound inside the app, but not as a file, and downloading the Reel from Instagram itself often gives you a silent video because licensed music is stripped. This guide shows how to save audio from an Instagram Reel as MP3 by link, and how to find the full song behind it.
Why Instagram's own download loses the sound
Instagram offers a download for many public Reels, with a catch:
| What happens | Why |
|---|---|
| The saved Reel is silent | the music is licensed and Instagram removes it on download |
| The video has a logo and username | Instagram adds a watermark |
| No download option at all | the creator turned downloads off, or the account is private |
| "Save" only adds it to a collection | the collection lives inside the app |
Downloading by link keeps the sound you hear in the app, and lets you save it on its own.
How to save audio from a Reel
- Under the Reel, tap the paper-plane icon and choose "Copy link".
- Open Skachok in your browser and paste the link.
- Tap "Find" and open the Audio tab.
- Choose MP3 or M4A and tap "Download".
On iPhone, the file goes to the Files app, in Downloads. On Android, it lands in the Download folder and appears in music apps. Audio formats start with the Lite plan at $1.99 a month; after registration, the Pro plan is free for 2 days. The Reel itself, with sound and without the watermark, downloads free up to 720p.
On a computer
Open the Reel on instagram.com, copy the address from the browser bar, paste it into Skachok, open the Audio tab and download.
Finding the full song
A Reel usually uses 15 to 90 seconds of a song. The song name is shown at the bottom of the Reel, under the username:
- Tap it to open the audio page: you see the title, the artist and other Reels using it.
- Search for that title on YouTube or YouTube Music and convert the full track with the YouTube to MP3 page.
- If it says "Original audio", the creator recorded it; the Reel is the only source.
What people use Reel audio for
- Ringtones and alarms: trim 20–30 seconds in any free audio editor.
- Their own edits: a sound for CapCut or another editor. Note that licensed music can get your video muted on other platforms.
- Workouts and meditation: voice-overs and calm tracks for offline listening.
- Language learning: short spoken clips to replay.
Which Instagram content works
| Content | By link | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Public Reels | yes | video up to 1440p, audio in every format |
| Videos in public posts | yes | paste the post link |
| Reels from private accounts | no | only approved followers can see them |
| Stories | mostly no | Instagram shows them only to signed-in users |
| Live streams | no | only the saved replay, if posted |
Using a Reel sound for your own Reel
If your goal is to post your own Reel with the same sound, you do not need a file at all: tap the sound name and choose "Use audio", and Instagram keeps the credit and the license. Download the audio when you need it outside Instagram: in another editor, as a ringtone, for a presentation or simply to listen offline.
Several Reels at once
Paste several links, one per line, and choose MP3 for each. Lite processes 5 at a time, Pro 10 and Max up to 50.
MP3 or M4A
M4A is Instagram's original AAC track without re-encoding: slightly better quality per megabyte, and it plays natively on iPhone. MP3 is the safe choice for car stereos and older players. A higher bitrate would not add quality: the source is already compressed.

Respect the creators
The sound of a Reel belongs to its creator or, for music, to the artist and label. Saving it for your own listening is common; reposting it as yours or using it commercially is not allowed without permission.
When the audio cannot be downloaded
- Private account: the Reel is visible to followers only.
- Deleted Reel: the file no longer exists.
- You copied a profile or Story link: open the Reel and copy its link.
- Photo post: there is no audio to save.
